Privacy policy

1. Who we are

IRCHO (International Radiochemistry Olympiad) is an independent international educational competition, operated by an organising committee acting through a legal entity registered in Uruguay. References to "we", "us" or "the organisers" refer to that entity.

2. What we collect

  • Registration data: full name, email address, country, educational institution, level (high school / university), preferred contact language.
  • Submission data: the PDF you upload as your Round 1 answer.
  • Technical data: IP address and browser user-agent, retained for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
  • Correspondence: messages you send us via the contact form.

3. Why we collect it

  • To organise the competition, grade submissions, contact participants and issue certificates.
  • To prevent fraud and abuse, and to comply with applicable legal obligations.
  • To compile aggregated, non-identifying statistics (e.g. number of countries represented).

4. Legal basis (EU/EEA participants)

For participants residing in the European Economic Area, processing is based on (a) the contract between you and IRCHO when you register and (b) our legitimate interest in operating and improving the competition.

5. Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the Scientific Advisor (limited to grading-related information) and, for Round 2, with PayPal as our payment processor (limited to the data PayPal requires to process a US$10 transaction). PayPal's own privacy policy applies to that step.

6. Retention

Registration data is retained for the duration of each edition and up to 24 months thereafter for record-keeping and certificate verification. Uploaded PDFs are retained for grading and dispute resolution and then deleted.

7. Your rights

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data at any time by contacting support@ircho.org.

8. Cookies

We use functional cookies only (session, language preference). No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are set.
