Terms and conditions

Last updated: September 2026.

1. Acceptance

By registering for IRCHO (the "International Radiochemistry Olympiad") you confirm that you have read, understood and agree to these Terms and Conditions and to the Privacy Policy.

2. Eligibility

The competition is open to bona fide high school and university students. Participants under 18 should obtain consent from a parent or legal guardian.

3. Rules of fair play

  • All submitted work must be your own. Collaboration, plagiarism and the use of unauthorised resources are prohibited.
  • During the Round 2 Final you must follow the published monitoring rules (webcam on, single window, no third parties present).
  • Use of AI assistants to generate answers is not permitted unless explicitly stated otherwise in the problem instructions.
  • Any attempt to circumvent these rules will result in disqualification and may bar you from future editions.

4. Submissions and grading

Round 1 submissions must be uploaded as a single PDF (max 10 MB) before the published deadline. Grading is performed by the organising committee under the supervision of the Scientific Advisor. All grading decisions are final.

5. Fees, payments and refunds

Round 1 is free: registration and submission carry no charge. Round 2 (the Final) has a flat entry fee of US$10 processed through PayPal, payable only after you are invited. The fee covers grading, certificate printing and international shipping. If we cancel a Final session the fee is refunded in full. If you withdraw at least 48 hours before your scheduled session, the fee is refunded minus the PayPal processing fee. Cash prizes are awarded to the three highest-scoring finalists; the amounts are published before the Final opens and are paid by international bank transfer or PayPal at the winner's choice within 30 days of the results announcement. Any tax obligations on a prize are the winner's responsibility.

6. Certificates

All finalists receive a physical certificate mailed to the address they provide. The organisers are not responsible for delays caused by postal services or by inaccurate addresses supplied by participants.

7. Intellectual property

IRCHO retains all rights to the competition problems, materials and branding. By submitting your solutions you grant IRCHO a non-exclusive licence to use them for grading, statistical and educational purposes.

8. Disclaimer of affiliation

IRCHO is an independent educational programme. It is not affiliated with the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO), the International Chemistry Challenge (IChC), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or any national chemistry olympiad body. Their trademarks remain the property of their respective owners.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, IRCHO and its organisers are not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from participation in the competition.

10. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to registered participants by email.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Uruguay, the jurisdiction in which the IRCHO legal entity is registered, to the extent permitted by mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence. Disputes are subject to the competent courts of Montevideo, Uruguay, except where consumer law in your country provides otherwise.
